1979 wasn’t the best year.
Revolutionaries stormed the Tehranian embassy, McDonald’s kicked off the obesity crisis with the invention of the Happy Meal, and there were still two or three years of disco to suffer through.
It’s a different story had you spent the year munching popcorn at your local cinema. ALIEN, THE JERK, 10, APOCALYPSE NOW, MAD MAX—1979 was a banner year for Hollywood, chock full of small gems and groundbreaking blockbusters alike.
40 years on, join us in paying tribute to these classics and help us decide just how well they hold up.
Be sure to let us know if you have any favorites, and we’ll try to add them to the schedule!
